I want to write about a friendship I was able to patch up using the power of the law of attraction (LOA). I met this guy through mutual friends in May of last year and started to run into him more and more often during June and July. He was in college in another state, so it was sad to see him go back in August. While we briefly met and had run-ins, I started developing a little crush on him as well. I had doubts about it working out for a number of reasons: he might already have a girlfriend, or I’m not his type, or he’s so young, I’m 8 years older, and he is going off to college with other people his age. The world was literally his oyster, and here I was ‘stuck’ in a town and state I didn’t enjoy, and wanted so much to leave.

I decided I’d be happy with his friendship and just forget all about him. August and September came and went, and in October, he had to come home unexpectedly due to an accident. He couldn’t finish out his semester and needed therapy to get better. Being that he was bedridden, I took it as an opportunity to get to know him better since he was always on the go in the summertime. I was visiting probably once a week to talk and hang out through the months of November and December of last year, and they were the best months of my life. We grew close, and I couldn’t help that my crush on him intensified. So, I told him how I felt in a letter as I am very shy when it comes to those things. However, he didn’t respond in a favorable way. In fact, he began to distance himself from me. It was heartbreaking.

A few months went by, and we had hardly spoken to each other, maybe exchanging a superficial text or two about his health and going back to school. Meanwhile, my life had hit an all-time low, most likely driven by the negative thoughts and feelings I felt by the outcome. I remembered The Secret and reread The Secret as well as The Power. I remembered how much of an impact “The Power” had made on me, and while I thought it redundant to buy The Magic, I went and did it anyway. I have not gone through a whole book yet, but it gave me the courage to practice the law of attraction little by little. I think, while it’s a wonderful way to get a jumpstart in 28 days, in my case, with my mind, baby steps are the best approach. But I vow to go through a whole month of practices!

Long story short, I am leaving in a few weeks to live with my family in a better location, with more people I know and connect with. And while that is a great improvement all on its own, I still had this one nag at the back of my mind with my friend. I still wanted him in my life, in any form possible, including if it meant we would never be more than just friends. So I began thinking of the fun times we had rather than ‘how come’ we couldn’t be together. I remembered the things that caused me to fall in love with him in the first place, and although it kind of hurt at first, I was successful in recreating those feelings again. I blessed them with the idea and the wish that we could just hang out again like we did before.

I am happy to say that we did hang out for an entire two and a half hours just talking, laughing, joking, and smiling like we had before the uncomfortable situation. It was wonderful, and I can now move, knowing I have my good friend back. I still wish for more, but at the same time, who knows what the future holds?

I know I’ve learned a tough lesson: you do have to let go. It’s fun to ask, and it’s nice to believe, you still have to forget about it in order to receive. And who knows, maybe he would have been interested if only I had let go of all my insecurities while ‘wishful thinking.’ Had I practiced “The Secret” properly by asking, believing, and receiving, things may have turned out differently. They could still turn out differently, but for now, I am happy.
