Miracles Happen Even In Tough Times.
Submitted by: Justin Pickering
United StatesI am a teacher and manager at a small country club in Winchester, MA.
I moved to Boston and left my wife in Nashville to finish her PhD. I came up here early to get work and find us a place to live while she worked in solitude on an extremely difficult academic task. While I was away, she got two jobs, one at MIT and one at Brandeis University – two extremely prestigious institutions. I got hired for a 2-month long-term substitute position in my hometown teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught for eight years, but never middle school. I absolutely fell in love with the age group. They are amazing!
We worked hard, made great grades, and covered all the material we had to cover and more. The principal loved me, and so did the department chair. However, the job was only temporary, so when it ended, I felt deflated and crestfallen. I had found my dream job, and it went away after two months.
So, I started my summer work managing a small country club called the Winchester Boat Club in Winchester, MA. I went about applying for other teaching jobs, but in my heart, I wanted to stay at the school in my hometown.
Fast forward through six weeks of hard work at the club. Today, my wife emailed me with a link to a job opening at the school I was working at. The teacher I replaced for her maternity leave decided to stay home with her baby. The job is open for me to apply to! When I was last working there, the principal and department chair told me that if they had a job to give me, they would have given it to me. Now, that job is open!
I am submitting my application today and will send a personal email to the department chair and principal, letting them know I’ve applied formally and that I would be overjoyed to be there again in a full-time role. I’ll just sit back and let the Universe take care of the rest.
The moral of the story is that even in tough times, miracles do come true. Don’t stop believing. Many blessings to you.
Love,
Justin
