From Passionless Auditor To Passionate International Civil Servant.
Submitted by: Dian Novita
Jakarta, IndonesiaI am a happy girl with a happy life. I want to help and inspire people all over the world.
I want to share my incredible experience of manifesting a job here. After working as an auditor in a public accounting firm, I found myself struggling with the demanding nature of the job. The long hours, from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM every weekday and from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays, left me feeling exhausted and devoid of passion for the work. Despite feeling comfortable with my colleagues and the environment, the job failed to bring me fulfillment. I had initially taken the job as an auditor because it was a significant milestone for a fresh accounting graduate, but it eventually led to feelings of depression and unhappiness. At one point, I even found myself praying for a high fever or illness to escape the demands of the job.
In December of last year, I made the decision to resign from a public accounting firm. Instead of securing another job before resigning, I chose to submit my resignation letter in early January with a three month notice period, driven by the overwhelming desire to escape the world of audit as quickly as possible.
By April I found myself officially resigned and unemployed. I began searching for a job in companies that offered internal audit positions, but my efforts were met with no success. Two months of unsuccessful job hunting led me into a state of depression, especially given that I was also supporting my parents. I felt a sense of guilt for being jobless and staying at home, despite recognizing that my lack of passion for the audit job made it difficult to find fulfillment. This feeling was compounded by the fact that auditing was the only skill I had at the time.
It was at this juncture that I recalled The Secret, a philosophy that I had never applied to my job search. I had specific criteria for the job I was looking for. I wanted high pay, a focus on personal and professional development, intelligent and amiable coworkers, and a healthy work-life balance. At the time, I had no clear idea of what type of job would suit me, but I continued to pray and believe that I would find a suitable job sooner rather than later.
Then, a turning point came when my good friend Mika visited me at my home. She had a day off from her part-time job and shared her experiences working as a Project Assistant in the CSR Department of a major Oil & Gas Company in our country. Her description of the job and its impact resonated deeply with me, igniting a passion for working in a non-profit organization. I redirected my focus to finding a vacancy in an International Non-Government Organization (INGO), despite the absence of an available auditor position. I believed wholeheartedly that I could leverage my organizational experience and skills to secure a role in the organization. This transition marked a shift from being a passionless auditor to pursuing a career as a passionate civil servant.
Following a month from the time I applied to get interviewed at a major INGO, I found myself feeling relatively content with the interview process. However, when I didn’t receive any news within a week, anxiety and despondency began to set in. It was during this challenging period that I stumbled upon The Magic book in my cabinet. Intrigued, I decided to embark on a gratitude journey, focusing on fostering positive feelings to manifest positive energy. Remarkably, within two weeks, I received an unexpected email from the INGO, extending a job offer to me.
Overwhelmed with excitement, I accepted the offer, marking the end of a four-month job search. The organization requested that I commence work on August 15th, and now, having completed a week at my new job, I can confidently say that I am content with every aspect of it; the work itself, my colleagues, the facilities, and most significantly, the ability to conclude my workday at 4:30 PM. This experience has reaffirmed my belief in the power of gratitude and the importance of focusing on what you want to manifest in life. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I hope my story can serve as an inspiration to anyone who is still seeking employment.
