My husband of nearly 30 years unexpectedly took ill and died. He was my best friend, soulmate, tutor, etc. He taught me so much about life, fatherhood, etc. My own father passed when I was 6 months old and my mother never remarried. Therefore, I came up with a strong female perspective, being raised by my mom and 5 older sisters and 2 older brothers.

When my husband and I first married, we did not purchase wedding rings because it was a matter of respect for our religion. Since then, we grew away from religion and developed our own acceptable standards. One of them involved wedding rings. Lol, both my husband and I were in pharmaceuticals and let me tell you, if you don’t wear a wedding ring, things can get pretty hairy with people thinking or hoping you are single. It was mainly for this reason that we chose to purchase rings. Not too long before that, he unexpectedly passed. He felt very strongly about purchasing me another ring. I attempted to refuse it as much as I could because I was very satisfied with the one I had. Little did I know that he knew he was dying and wanted to give me this special ring that I had just happened to notice online one day, and I asked him if he liked it. Man, I had begun to regret showing it to him because he would not let it go. Finally, I gave in and purchased the ring. I had no idea he would be gone a few short months later.

To make a long story short, I was in the process of relocating from California to Georgia to be with my son. In the process of packing, I lost my ring. During the time my husband died, I had lost so much weight, and the ring just slipped off my finger. I was devastated. Nonetheless, I had to keep going and continue packing. I had honestly forgotten about the ring. And, no, I had not learned about the law of attraction at this point. Anyway, I was leaving behind all the furniture because it was too much to try and carry.

The day before I was to leave, my most precious niece came over to help me. As she was there, she noticed something sparkling from under the sofa. She reached down and picked up my ring! You already know, I was swimming in tears of joy!!! I was so very grateful to have my ring back. But I am more grateful for the experience. I now wear it on a different finger, so I won’t lose it.

May we all learn The Secret of learning to accept the negative things that come just as readily as we do the positive. That’s when and where we grow.
